Build and Defend Your Raft How to Defend Your Raft
Close the ring, hide the chests, and make every boarder walk a choke you can shoot.
Defenses keep your loot safe. That sentence is in the Roblox description for a reason. Build and Defend Your Raft lets other players break in and steal. If your chests sit on the welcome mat, the rest of the wiki is trivia.
This guide is about holding the deck. Building the square is how to build. Leaving the deck is how to raid. Ranked pieces live on defenses.
The only layout that matters at first
Chest in the center. Walls on all four sides. One door. That is the whole beginner kit. Everything else — spikes, plates, cannons, second floors — is a multiplier on a closed box. A pretty open deck with four cannons still loses the crate in ten seconds.
Stand in the middle and look out. If you can see water through a gap, a raider can see your chest. Patch the gap before you craft a flag. The loot checklist will nag you until this is true.
Spikes and plates
Official fortress art wears a spiked skirt and darker plated edges. Those pieces exist to tax climbers. Put them on the outer ring, not as interior decoration. Interior spikes grief you during a panic strafe.
Plates go on tiles that hold the table and the chests. If a boarder can delete the Crafting Table in one burst, they freeze your rebuild. Protect the economy tiles the way you protect the loot tiles.
Cannons and roof guns
The promo raft fires from a roof gun and from hull-level barrels. Cover the approach, not the empty ocean. If most boards come from the same current side of the map, stack guns there. A cannon pointing at nothing is a wood dump.
Do not AFK on the roof as a solo. You cannot see the door. Crews can park an anchor on the gun while a builder restocks. Solos should fight at the choke, then jump to the gun only if the door is already closed.
People, not only pieces
A wall without a defender is a timer. When you hear a landing, look at the door first, not the water. Most raids fail because the owner is placing a lantern. Bind that habit now: door, chest, then vanity.
If you play with friends, one person is the door. That is not a joke role. Solo versus crew assigns it. If you are alone, never swim with the door open. Close it, then raid, then open it from the inside when you return.
Lighting and vision
Hour-100 rafts glow because lamps help you see climbers. Put lights on the outer ring facing in, not a disco in the chest room that blinds you. Lower graphics if water glare hides dark avatars. Controls cover camera pitch so you can see the skirt.
What to do during a board
- Stop placing tiles.
- Face the door or the hole.
- If the chest is still yours, stay between the raider and the box.
- If they already have the crate, cut the exit, not the emote.
- Repair the hole before you chase into the ocean. A second raider may be waiting.
Chasing off the map is how you donate a second chest. Let them swim if the ring is still closed. Restock with the raft priority list and go hunting later with a raid loadout.
Codes and defense
When a code finally works, spend it on walls and table tiers, not on a second palm. What codes give is explicit about this. A boost that prints plates is a defense patch. A boost that prints a flag is a target marker.
After Saturday
Wall HP and recipes can move. Walk the ring after every Saturday patch. If a plate vanished, the live table changed. Rebuild before you AFK. Scripts that auto-repair are tempting and unsafe; read scripts if you still want them.
Defense is how you keep the hour you already played. Once the ring is boring, you are allowed to get greedy. Until then, every raid you launch is a bet against your own open door.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for raft builders and raiders.
How do I protect loot in Build and Defend Your Raft?
Put chests in the core, close a four-wall ring with one door, then add spikes, plates, and cannons. Never leave storage on the lip of the deck.
Do cannons replace walls?
No. Cannons multiply a closed ring. They do not save an open pallet.
Should I chase raiders into the water?
Usually no. Repair the hole first. A second swimmer will take the chest you abandoned.
